When PG Tips was launched in Britain is the 1930’s it was first called (rather bizarrely) Pre-Gest-Tee – suggesting that if you drank it before eating, it would aid digestion.
This was abbreviated to P.G.by shippers and grocers.
The claims to aid digestion were later dis-allowed, and the name was shortened to PG Tips as the best tea is made from the top leaves of the tea bush.
