Patisserie Deux Amis

This delightful French cafe on Judd Street is easy to miss, so I was pleased to come across it on a stroll through Bloomsbury on a summer Sunday afternoon.

Patisserie deux Amis is pretty in a French cafe style, with bistro chairs, white paper table cloths, plaster cherubs, etched glass mirrors and sage green paintwork.

I ordered tea and sat by an open window in the back room, overlooking a small garden. It was lovely and peaceful, with a gentle breeze, a Chopin nocturne on R3 in the background – it felt good to have stumbled upon such a gem.

The patisserie is beautifully displayed on the front counter – pastries, croissants, breads and tempting-looking cubes of pink and white nougat. My tea came with a little china shell as a receptacle for the tea bag – a thoughtful and much appreciated detail.

Service is very pleasant and friendly. P deux Amis is obviously a well-run and cared for local establishment. A lovely, calm oasis, it is hard to believe is only five minutes walk from Kings Cross to the north and the Brunswick Centre to the south. Well worth looking out for.
Très Bon!

  1. Sounds like my kind of place (you had me at bistro chairs, sage green paintwork, and Chopin) ….. and I LOVE the little china shell touch.

I first encountered white paper table cloths at a [fabu] Mackintosh-style tearoom in Savannah, Georgia. If they are of good quality, they are an excellent alternative to linen.

    Lovely review.
